Both are the Karmic/Dharmic group of religion. Hindus consider Buddhism as one of many streams of Hinduism, as the core concepts are essentially Hindu. However, outside of India, Buddhism took its own shape and identity and evolved quite differently than Hinduism. In India, like other spin-offs of Hinduism, Buddhism collapsed into the Hindu fold for all practical purposes. Hinduism is never far from belief in God, which unlike the Abrahamic religions is more conceptual than personal and angry. Buddhism however is strictly a non belief philosophy. The emphasis of both Buddhism & Hinduism is self elevation, with ultimate goal of attaining Nirvana perfection. Both are different than Abrahamic dogma in that no prophet bails you out and puts you in heaven.
