You know what, on second thought, if the water pump is original and is going on 20 years old and since you're going to be at it anyway, go for it if your wallet can handle the extra expense.

But you do not HAVE to change it.
I don't see why you would have to change it. Just inspect the water pump and make sure it looks OK and has no leaks. Then just change the timing belt.
While the front of the engine is open, replace the water pump with a "NEW" not reman water pump. Also, replace the tensioner with a "NEW" not reman one. Manufacturers recommend changing the timing belt at 60,000 miles. This is BS. My wife's Camry has 238,000 miles on it and recently checked the original belt to find it is in perfect condition. If it needed replacement I would do it myself. Mechanic's here get $800.00 excluding parts.

A PINTO? Wish I had one, they make great Pro-street rods. But there so hard to find.
if the miles are high on the cuurent punp and its not too costly i would consider but i hear they jab you preety hard on acura parts
