All cars that run on a 12 volt battery will accept a 12 volt phone charger no matter where the car was manufactured.12 volts is 12volts period. Even American cars have a 12 volt system, there is no such voltage [120volts] for phone charging in a car, maybe what you are looking at is something to do with the battery system of your hybrid. there are cars such as a TOYOTA RAV that have several electrical inlets, all of them are 12 volts, i don't think the japanese would change voltages just for the U.S.A.

If you are in Australia you will be right because the cars,with very few exceptions, are 12 volt systems. THe mains chargwer is a different matter entirely, we are on 230 volts AC, but you should be able to buy a plug with the Australian configuration on pins and the US configuration for the charger to plug into. This adaptor would how ever need decrease the 230 volts to your US voltage or you would burn out you ~phone.

Talk to a reputable ~phone shop.

I feel the 120v you have seen on your cars outlet is possibly 12.0V

120 volts to your cell phone whould burn it out of call mars, my guess it would burn out first

Could be that they have Positive ground instead of Negitive ground like we do and that would crispy up the citciuts.
