    apart from the sun the brightest star you normally see in the eastern sky, first one at night and the last at sun up is VENUS.

    Good one I was going to say the sun. The question didn't say night sky.
    Sirius is the brightest star in the night sky. It is amazing what 4 graders learn these days.
