    hackney carriage taxi and private hire

    plz can u help me,i am a taxi driver working in blackburn and i have hackney carriage driving licence,what i would like to kno is can i work for privaite hire firm taxi wich is not hackney carriage taxi but a privaite hire firm taxi with my hackney carriage driving licence.

    Looks like hackney carriage/private hire driver is good for either/both once you have one (a licence). You do so yes. Same licence, but you should call and make sure. good luck nads

    Wow, that's interesting. I really thought because of the difference in vehicles, a carriage license would not be able to be used as a automotive taxi license. Some laws make no sense.
    I would believe you would need a hackney license for the auto since carriages and autos are different style vehicles and have different sets of road rules.
    It's the same line of thinking that a person with a regular automobile license can not drive a tractor trailer under the same auto license.
    To be honest, you should check with Blackburn County Council. Your "Hire & Reward" insurance could be invalid if you don't get the correct advice.
