Did you know Australians are the happiest people in the world? An OECD index compared people in 34 countries. We came out on top.

I don't believe it, eggie has asked a question that does not involved aliens and U.F.O.'s. Seriously i do believe that good old OZ is still the lucky country, you have to go overseas to realize that. TRUE BLUE.

Been there and done that. Australia is the only place.
Well I can`t speak for the other 21 million but as sure as Phar Lap won the Melbourne cup I have no wish to live anywhere else.
I have travelled a bit and have always arrived back home feeling like kissing the ground we walk on.
I KNOW !!! HOW HAPPY ARE WE!!!
I GUESS OTHER COUNTRIES HAVE BAD ICE CREAMS :O

    Cheer up.

Your guy won the Tour de France, so congratulations for that.

But I wonder if the aborigines are as happy as the whites?

    Tommyh

Very good point,But I think things are improving for them.

That's their problem, they choose to live in humpies and squalor. If you give them houses they'll soon turn it into a heap of rubbish. Those so-called aborigines are not real aborigines. They are mixed with Pakistani, Chinese, Anglo-Saxon, Indians etc, etc. The only real Aborigines are the ones who live near the bush up North. If I could prove I was 1/8 Aborigine I would get a lot of handouts and things that others do not get. Some have done very well, and I admire them for that. The Government leans over backwards for them.

why wouldnt they be?? free medical, paid to go to friends funerals, jobs especially created for them by the govt. new coats and shoes everytime it sprinkles, educational courses all free and a lift home with the police when they are drunk etc, etc, etc, all with compliments of taxpayers!!! I respect those that at least attempt to contribute to society in some way, not those that expect handouts from those that they consider to be "white dogs" what could they be unhappy about? expectation to meet societal standards zero and be paid as well!!!
    Is that so?
I wish I worked for the OECD.

Stepping on to the plane at LAX & hearing the cabin crew talk,I said to my wife,"Isn't it great to here Aussie accents again"?

Of course your happy, its winter time there now, we are sitting here in the scorching heat of summer, and it hasn't rained an inch  here since october.   I'm happy for you.

    eggplant

Heh, heh. This winter is very cold. When your winter comes around, you are going to wish it was summer time.

Australia has over taken the U.S. in terms of an average sized home as well.  More room, more happiness.

    eggplant

Yes, we have a large home which is solar passive. Being large, does not mean it uses a lot of energy. We do not have air conditioning. We have gas heating, but we don't use it all day long as the house is warm.
Nowadays, people are opting for smaller houses. Not mansions.

    NOT TRUE FOR SOME.
