if you've done the obvious, change batteries, slapped it a few times and it continues to not work then throw it away, go get a new one, universal remotes are cheap and when they don't work, throw it away too. Matter of fact, throw your TV away, there's nothing on it but doom n gloom anyway..

Is this the remote that originally came with the TV? Are you hooked up to cable? Did it ever work? If so, try changing the battery. If not, re-read the instruction manual. You may have inadvertently pressed the wrong button and need to reprogram it so it's code matches your TV. If all else fails you may need to buy a new universal remote.
