I asked my insurance man if my insured twenty year old step daughter could borrow my car and said there would be no problem as long as she had insurance. If there was an accident, her insurance would cover damages even if she was driving my car.
Yes you are...and your insurance wont cover you if you have not added that another driver may drive your car.
You are responsible. Recoup your losses from the person you loaned your to!
Yes. If you allow someone to drive your car, you are responsible.
    Call your insurance agent.
Yes, initially. You can purchase additional insurance to cover other drivers http://www.akaqa.com/question/q1919745517-If-i-loan-a-person-my-car-am-i-responsible-if-he-gets-in-an-accident#on your policy. Also like stated above the person driving may have insurance that covers themselves while driving someones vehicle.

You may have to sue the driver if they get into an accident in your car to recover damages. You would win in court, but it's best to make sure if you lend out your car that the guest driver has their own insurance. It's not worth loosing a friend over this.
