I'm a vegetarian so I don't eat them, but I'm told a make a great hamburger for everyone else. I cut up onion and green pepper fine and mix with Worcestershire sauce. Make them nice and thick and grill them up. Wouldn't touch them on a bet but everyone else seems to like them.

i'm sleepy too .. I'll just say that on the rare occasions when i have hamburgers, i pat them flat flat flat with my sanitary gloves on. after they're flat enough, i cook them in a hot pan with salt. i just don't trust hamburger and where it comes from. my hamburgers are not juicy! (i've seen too many movies and read too much) I will eat them if somebody else cooks them and they're not the least bit rare.
don't let me change your mind. heh. : )

Gee I thought you blokes would know how to cook and garnish a burger, on second thoughts after Macckers and Burger Kings apology for a burger I can see where I went wrong.
Here we go: Minced beef (not heart smart, you need a bit of fat for taste) onion chopped finely, red capsicum chopped finely, freshly ground black pepper and ground sea salt, splash of worstershire sauce. One or two eggs beaten.
Make up mix and cover and put in the refrigerator at least a couple of hours, preferably overnight. This allows the flavours to permeate each other.
Lightly flour and put in hot oil that comes up to about a third of the pattie thickness. Turn ONCE only.
Now the good part toast a quality bread bun/s and BUTTER them.
Put the pattie on the bun and top with iceburg lettuce, sliced tomato, fried onion and the piece de resitance a slice of beetroot. It is NOT a hamburger without beetroot. Salt if you want to but remember there is salt in the mix.
If you want you can put a slice of tinned (canned) pineapple on also.
If you use tomato or bar b que sauce please do not use this recipe, sauce is only made for people who don`t like the taste of good food or have never had good food.
If anyone puts sauce on any meal I cook I feel I have failed. So go for a good Aussie Hamburger. Tell me what you think.

Sorry but as a good ole American born and breed,we gotta have our Barb q sauce, without it you don't have those finger licking good ribs, the salt and sweet contrast has me begging for more.:)
There are so many great ways to fix up your hamburgers. I believe that the most important thing are that you cook them on a grill, and that you get a great cut of beef, like Jenn mentioned angus is great.
I love mushrooms and I grill shitake mushrooms with butter and garlic in them, later I add whatever type cheese I'm in the mood for, usually jack or mozzarella.
Also there are two spices I really like for the outside of the burger, which are Lawry's Garlic Salt, and Badia steak seasoning, they are great together.
If you have freshly made buns, that is awesome... Sourdough are excellent if you like to grill your buns. Like I said there are so many good ways to make burgers, I can't list them all, but I did my best.
Oh yeah, I also like to sometimes add romaine lettuce, thinly sliced onions, dill pickles, and tomatoes of course. Mayo, mustard, ketchup.

SO many ways to fix them, but my favorite is when making the patties I pour some beer in the mix along with shallots, a little garlic with some Lipton soup mix, then put them on a grill, once cooked, lettuce, tomatoes, mayo and a couple of different cheeses. Toasted buns and I'm GOOD.
