The bile in your stomach sterilizes ingested food. Bile is produced by the liver.
The first sterilization process is stomach acid (hydrochloric acid) It is formed in the stomach and kills off bacteria (bugs) that would otherwise make you very ill. Today, this acid is more of a hindrance for many people with 'Acid reflux' where the esophagus, throat burns painfully. (heartburn) nothing to do with the heart BTW..

Today we cook our foods where in the past we didn't, food was eaten raw and some meats were carried back to the 'camp' which could be several days journey, this meat of course was rancid and infested with bacteria, but they ate it anyway. hydrochloric acid. was very important then..
My wife has no stomach after cancer surgery, maybe this is why her expulsion of air from her nether region stink so much.

Thinking of bottleing it as a war gas, does not kill but certainly has you running for cover.
