    Who has dual citizanship of USA and a EU country but has neither parents or grandparents from that country?

    Looking for anyone w/ real experiencence in living in two countries as an adult. With no help of having family coming to the USA from another country just a couple of gen. ago. I have history of Tx. family since 1800 on all sides. I also have verbal history but little documented history. I want help.

    I do not have real experience but as I understand it, (according to USA citizenship laws), in order to have dual citizenship, your parents would have to be citizens of one country but your mother gives birth to you in another country.

    So say your parents are American, and your mother gave birth to you in France, you would be a USA citizen and a French citizen.

    It is immediate lineage, not distant lineage or extended family lineage that makes you a citizen.

    If it worked the way you want it to, I'd be a citizen of Scotland, Ireland and Portugal along with the USA ;)
