My neighbors are drunks. They spend every minute at home entertaining all their drunk friends. They play horse shoes endlessly until they can't stand up. They start off talking loud and the drunker they get the louder the talking gets until they are shouting at each other. (Funny how getting drunk makes you deaf!)

In any case, they are annoying. If my dogs bark are them while this is going on - so what! They annoy me, the dogs annoy them. An eye for an eye. They also realize that if they call the cops on the dogs, I'll call the cops on the drunks.

I don't know the answer to your question. However, I do commend you for taking the initiative to deal with it. Some people don't, and they end up subjecting their neighbors to a real annoying situation.

Train your dog. If I could teach my beagle to stop barking at squirrels, then you can teach your dog to stop barking at one person. Have him get to know your neighbor. Teach him what no means so when he barks and you say, no, he listens. Get a bark collar. Not as cruel as having his larynx chopped. Not the best solution either. Best solution, train him.

My neighbors dogs barked all day all night. Spoke to them till my tongue dried out. Called police, signed complaints, went to court nothing worked. My dog was trained to bark when a stranger approached then quickly stopped. This happened over a period of nearly two years. Took matters into my own hands. There are no more dogs.

Put a little time and effort into training the dog. It will be well worth the time for both of you. The dog doesn't know he's not suppose to be barking at the neighbor, (maybe he's just trying to say hello). Most dogs want to obey you, you just need to point the way. Especially if you praise him when he does good. Dogs love to be loved.
