My Christian answer would be the closer you are to God the better relationship, the happier and more fulfilled you will be.
The secular side would just say it depends on your view of things.
Wisdom is a gift from God, you will see the end is coming, but when you have faith in God you have nothing to fear.

from the beginning was education, with the know about their own history disappearing aids susceptibility to unreal, like ideologies, speculation and holy lie, because the blindness to the lee of fear is not longer needed when one become real, the reality does not need more to be feared and not flee from it
In the beginning was God and the Word (Jesus)was with God. Wisdom comes from the Lord and the worlds wisdom is foolishness in the eyes of God. God catches the the fool in his pride and imagined intellect, and leads him to truth and understanding if he seeks the creator of wisdom. We all have our different views of what truth is yet in the end there will only be one truth. TMO

He distanced himself from God and he disobeyed God by having so many wives and concubines. But it's a long story, you will have to check it out for yourself.
I think happiness is basically a decision on how to view things and how to react to the troubles that come our way. If you are unhappy or depressed you have to change the way you think. The Bible say that Joy is a fruit of the Spirit, I am always happier when I am closer to God. TMO

What you asked is totally true, the more i gain knowledge of stuff, the more sadness kicks in, I mean, opening up the news channel and i see children, women and men dying as a result of a suicidal maniac who bombed himself. do i choose to ignore it, turn to another channel, nope, to be strong is to know what you see. sure it would kick sympathy, provoke unwanted thoughts, i could've easily turned the channel like hundreds of people do to their favourite show in order to have something to talk about with their friends tomorrow, how many of your friends talk about the real drama going on in the real world everyday? non, never. Knowing about things that you don't normally know about is what opens up your creativity, it's what pops up new questions to your mind, with these questions comes up sorrow, sorrow of what you have missed all your life, but it's only with that regret that change really comes. Like colleen said, ignorance is bliss, but does it get you anywhere, nope. at least with knowledge, you provoke change, change means life.

When you know a lot it can make you a little cynical when I watch people on the news nothing surprises me anymore.I then some times out of disgust I stopped watching then started watching again to know what is going on. JESUS helps me to reach a balance to go farther I can not find the words to give HIM the proper justice
