Bluebirds usually nest in cavitys (boxes or Woodpecker cavities) but occasionally will nest in places like the top of rotted out fence posts. In that case, the nest and young are exposed to the elements and to preditors like Bluejays. The Bluejay will eat other birds babys and the parent Bluebirds would attempt to drive off the Bluejay by dive-bombing them.

Most any bird will attack another if it feels it's nesting territory is being threatened. Female Blue jays are notorious for taking over other birds nests, booting out the other birds eggs and then laying her own which she will then leave for the other bird to set and take care of once the the chicks hatch.
