If there is a lever at the very back of the tractor, about 8-10" below the seat, try changing that lever's position. It's an odd little set up, as it doesn't seem to be a PTO in the way you would think of a PTO, but the lever more affects the conditions the engine will run under. If you back up with the tractor, I believe you have to disengage the mower deck's drive, otherwise it will also stall. My neighbor has one of these tractors, and he offered it to me to use when my mower was down. Very quirky design!!!
