Not necessarily less mature, but definitely much less well-mannered and properly socialized, mostly because of poor parenting and too much technology that keeps them mentally isolated from physically socializing with people much of the time. Not necessarily their fault, they were born into these times. Sadly, for many it's all they've known.

I drove to the grocerystore the other day and 5 teenagers were walking in the middle of the road. I had to tut my horn. They finally reluctantly made way for me to go by. As I was slowly passing them, one boy gave me the finger and yelled"F...k you old bag. I wanted so bad to get out of the car and smack him. But it was in the middle of nowhere and I was afraid what they might do. There is absolutely no respect anymore. They use you-tube and twitter and even our own polititians set a bad example. I dont know what the world is coming to. My children never even thought about using that kind of language.Kids today are disrespectfol and rude

They are more mature than we were. They ask, "Can I have sex at 16?"

I accidentally got in a Halloween store with my Grandaughter. There were sexy costumes and terrible bloody, grisly purple baby dolls. (All they'd needed was tape over their mouths) I went into a state of shock as I found my way to the back of the store to where they had the Disney costumes and the princess costumes. I sound ancient. I sound boring. I sound like the type of elder who walked three miles to school in my bare feet ... but I must say: What is this world coming to???? I guess there was nothing for me to worry about. She'd been in the store the past three years. (She's 7)

Nomdeplume why is it that the governments don`t see what we see?
I spent 4 1/2 years training National Service Trainees in the Australian Army from 1953 to 1957 and handled 14 intakes and believe me the difference between day one and day 90 was some of the proudest days of my life.
To see these young men get off the bus bewildered and some even frightened having no idea what was ahead of them and to see these men grow and mature, learn self discipline, and mateship and then finaly see them bright eyed confident young soldiers on their March out parade attended by mums, dads, girl friends no wrds can express what the training did for them and society at large.
We knew before hand of any previous anti social behaviour or trouble with police and believe me we did not for one second tolerate any shit from them and they quickly learned this.We identified them as soon as they stepped off the bus and let them be aware this was not civvy street, what they did here could one day be the difference between living or dying if, we hoped not, they ever saw combat.

They are less mature and getting worse every day. What makes them so immature is that they think they know everything. Baby Mamas and Baby Daddys. They have no respect for themselves, let alone anyone else. They are more violent and less tolerant. They move in packs and herds, are practically incapable of independent thought. They think school has no purpose. They barely know how to communicate with people face to face. They are lazy and unmotivated. They handle conflict by fighting. They lie, cheat, and steal. Juvenile detention facilities are packed to overflowing. They feel everything is owed to them, they are entitled to everything, they deserve everything. They are spoiled and insufferable.
Then again, there are some awesome teens today who are taking college courses during their high school years, enrolled in all the AP classes their schedules can hold, maintain GPAs far above 4.0, holding down jobs and doing volunteer work in their communities in a variety of venues. They are peer counselors, musicians, actors, atheletes, and scholars, in addition to being respectful of themselves and others. They are activie in their churches, temples, and mosques. They have goals and aspirations, and know they earn rather than deserve.
I guess it depends on the teenager.

Yes they are. I recently heard a psychologist say that they've changed the age for when one hits adulthood. Now, it's 26. Today 's teens and young adults depend on their parents for everything. And to ------'' 1967'', I grad from H.S. too, in 1967 - - - -the '' Summer of Love ''

Matheneyg, you have articulated what I have been thinking for a long, long time. The parents of the unruly teens of today are OUR children (I had my kids late, nd they are in their early 20's...if my kids had teenagers, I'm sure they would be horribly disrespectful).
I don't think our parents were to blame for how we turned out. Remember, we were young adults in the 60's and that was a time of "revolution". The next generation was raised on passivity instead of discipline. Respect was non-existent and the parents treated their children as peers with the ability to make wise choices at age 7.
Now these raised-by-wild-dogs kids are adults and having their own children. They have no good example to follow and no clue how to be an effective parent. If one of them gets pregnant and isn't married, "grandma" will raise the baby while "sissy" finishes high school. Grandma didn't do so well with Sissy, if she is having kids before she's 18. Why are we thinking Grandma is going to provide better direction for the third generation? Heaven help us.

I may catch some flak over this but aren't we partially responsible for what the younger set is doing today. I mean us baby boomers had our children now they are grown with their children so the question is did we forget to teach our kids something here. that has not been passed on to our grandchildren. something to think about isn't it.
