I have a dead opossum under my deck, and it is unobtainable; how do I hasten the decomposition of the carcass and neutralize the odor? i

I swear to GOD this just happened to me 3 days ago! My wife noticed the SMELL and I found out what it was....A DEAD POSSUM.
Luckily I was able to remove it and despose of it in a garbage bag. That was tossed into a plastic garbage tub and the lid closed. By the time the garbage pick up on Tuesday the smell was unbearable.

I would get those remains out from under your deck anyway you can.

HERE IS A PICTURE OF THE POSSUM.
I TOOK A BROOM STICK AND TAPED A LARGE RIVER HOOK TO THE TIP SO I COULD REACH THE THING AND DRAG IT OUT FROM THE DECK. YEEEEACK!

I look like a hillbilly in that picture so I cropped ME out of it.
You can put lye on it if you can but I think I would find a long stick or something to hook it with, if it got in you can get it out.
I don't think a bag of clothespins costs much! One for each family member.
a few screws takes the deck boards off. Then you'll have access.
buy a bag of lime from the hardware & put the whole bag on it.This will speed up decomposition.
My kids' hamster got loose and climbed up the dryer hose. It dried there and died there. After several days of the hamster being missing, we noticed a strange odour. It was like insense, but so bad. Oh ...
I don't know what my husband did to get rid of it. I do know we got a new hose and my son's gym shoes had been in the dryer at the time of the accident. He got new gym shoes.
I wanted to move to another town. A lot of people had been coming and going from our house and everyone had mentioned the "funny smell"
I didn't mean to get carried away with this story. It has nothing to do with your opossum problem, zia darrel.
an opossum is so much worse. so much uglier.
How did you get rid of the opossum!! We have to know! (at least it wasn't a skunk)
you could remove a deck board or two to get to it
the flies might do the job...but still that'll take time.
I would have ripped the deck out to get to it. THATS how bad it smelled.
Well if you can't get at it then there is no way to get rid of the smell...yuk!
