There is an argument that corporations don't really pay taxes, because they will always pass it along through higher prices and/or employing less workers. The more workers employed, the better the "common good" and the more taxes collected. Nothing is ever as black and white in reality and practice (every situation is different, as are "profits", which can change dramatically due to accounting method, company re-investment, and a whole host of other things), but there is truth to this and it is the prevailing viewpoint. After all, most people would rather have the jobs and their tax contributions rather than less. Interestingly, the US corporate tax rate is higher than most countries. I will stop there, because we could go on for hours.
