    HONESTY GIVES YOU +15 karma!

ITS FUNNY YOU CAN SAY "GOD" ALL DAY LONG NOBODY CARES BUT AS SOON AS YOU MENTION "JESUS" PEOPLE ARE ALL UP IN ARMS!!

I know, daren. I've always wondered why.

    you are so right!
    mycatsmom

they're not supposed to say either, as an expletive, Daren . It's against the 3rd Commandment.
    daren1

@mycatsmom you could be right depending on the context in which it's used !!

Strickly speaking, it's considered profanity.  I use OMG when astonished, and I do thank God quite often for stuff.

It DOES bother me when people use Jesus Christ to express exasperation and annoyance.   My dad used it when he was disgusted and the way he said it made it sound like swearing.  It was offensive when I was 10 and it's offensive now.

Hi Bob/PKB - Phyllis - I listen to people who say "Oh My Goodness" "OMG" and "Oh Gosh" and get the feeling that they really what to say "Oh my God". Like you I just hate to hear "Oh Christ" or "Jesus" this really offends me and I do not know why as I am agnostic. I am doing a "you" it is nearly 4am and here I am on site - apart from anything else, this is why I am not here too often - so addictive. How are you? I do hope you are well - you are so sensitive and kind and I have not forgotten how you offered me help - take care of yourselfxo
How come we don't say: Oh my Mohammad, or, For Buddah's Sake!

or Oh, My Martin Luther King !

people/Muslims often say"ALLAH ALLAH..."in exactly the same way we say OMG...you could just say that we all use it to say God help me!..to me that`s asking help as in prayer..not taking his name in vain!;-)

I'm used to it. Grew up with it and am guilty of it. Now that's it's been brought to my attention, I should do something about it.........

He is my friend. I dont like my friends insulted

    Lupe

I agree with you. I shudder when I hear some of this.

It is offensive to me... I do not like people speaking against the true God, or to Jesus. It is wrong.

I am not a Christian but, I must admit it bother's me.  I believe it's disrespectful.

I say "Oh my Goodness!" or " Geeze Louise and Cupcakes!"  ... However, the impact of my words normally is not taken with conviction.  Sad and true.

GPS?!? LOL OMG U R so abbreviative today...roflmao...(somebody hold me up...lol)

No i don`t get offended, everyone has his right to believe in someone. I will be offend just if someone say something with bad purpose to harm me or make me nervous or try to impose my rights to believe in something or in someone.

Yes, I hate that and it's in all the movies and TV shows. It's even the name of a new TV show about entertainment. It's called OMG something or other. I really hate it when the characters say " Jesus Christ! " as an expletive. The third commandment says, " Thou shall not take the name of the Lord, thy God , in vain.''     What's really shocking lately, is that I've seen some of these young people put " OMFG" on FB !!   My cousin's grand- daughter, who's about 20 did that.

    No

Not really I notice it, but don't say anything. Have you ever noticed anytime an Atheist see's something shocking or has an orgasm they shout, oh my god? People see unexplainable things and that is their immediate response. Earthquakes happen we see the video's and people are screaming for God.
But the rest of the time they don't need Him, they just ignore Him? The planes falling out of the sky and people are calling for Him.

People make those promises to God like,"God if you give me this or that I will start going to church etc. etc., If I get this promotion I will get right with you. Well Somewhere deep down inside of us, whether we choose to recognize Him or not, we call on God in our hour of need.

Maybe we should look into why that feeling is there? Instead of asking for help at the last minute. I'm gonna give you a t.u. on the question, let me ask a question if you car was stuck on the railroad tracks and your door was hard to open and you began to panic like most people would, what or who do you think most people would cry out to ? or say ?

    Ashligh16

I'm not actually asking for God when I say "Oh my god" I've heard it being said all my life growing up so it's kind of imprinted in me. Just like someone who grew up with god in their life, it's imprinted. Just like when people say any other curse word, they don't actually want to Sh! or F#@ someone, hehe

    daren1

THEIRS NO ATHEIST IN THE FOXHOLES, BUT GOD WAS THERE FIRST

    mycatsmom

I haven't made it with any atheists
    mycatsmom

Why don't writers have their TV and movie characters saying " Moses ! " in anger instead of " Jesus! " ?

I dont mind OMG.... God is not the Lords name. I do correct ppl with a siple "loves you" after ppl say Jesus Christ.

It doesn't offend me. but it is not right since the word of God says don't call God's name in vein so it is a sin to call God's name unnecessarily

I dont think you should use the term,O,M,G,in refference to some  of our friends on aKaQA,

    itsmee

LOL again ... you did it again.

    Twice even,he,he,hee,

NO DOES NOT BOTHER ME AT ALL.

Thou shall not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that takes his name in vain Exodus 20:7 This the third commanment and the ten commandments comprise the law of God

O.K...but do you not ever look at a friends new car/house/belongings and wish that you could afford the same...or do you never nick some chocolate or food from the fridge?..have you never stepped on a bug?OR been working or shopping on the Sabbath day?...I`ve usually broken most of the ten commandments by Monday mornings;-)..but I haven`t the time or inclination to sit down and work out the ones left to k.o. in the next hours..I`m not worried..I live as best I can..and let live...and don`t most people say OMG without really relating it to religion...just ano expression to me and certainly not meant to offend O`s...I say a lot worse...a lot more often!:-)
Because if we said 'oh for Buddah's sake' or oh my mohammed' we would probably get arrested for racism ot verbal abuse, Christianity is the most marginalised 'religion' in the world today. Christians are not allowed to freely voice their opinions in case of offence to other religions yet Christians don't seem to matter. If I hear anyone use the name of the son of God as a swear word I feel as it I have been stabbed through the heart. Apart from anything else God commanded us not to.
    mycatsmom

you're right, lelly. The movies never have someone saying. Oh! Buddha ! as an expletive. or Oh Mohammed ! as an expletive or as an expression of anger.

nao nao me incomodo, pois o mundo mudo de uma certa forma ...
