Menstruation is a characteristic of placental mammals. It is a process where by the uterus gives off its unused inner layer because the egg was never fertilized. Birds and reptiles do not have a uterus. They lay a hard shelled egg called the amniotic egg. Most reptiles leave their eggs alone to develop on their own. Once hatched the reptile hatching must fend for themselves for the most part.
