Yes I expect some of the youngsters that come here probably wonder what on earth we are talking about sometimes. Still that goes both ways doesn't it.
Here in the UK a shilling used to be a called a Bob. The name Bob is short for Robert, and a policeman is called a Bobby(amongst other things) which comes from the name of the person who invented them Robert Peel.

mcm a shilling was 12 old pennies, (until we went decimal in the early 70s) and 20 shillings made £1 (one pound). Now what was the shilling coin is 5p (New pence) and there are 20 of those to a pound, although they are worth so little that no one really wants them in their pocket.We now have coins that are 5p 10p 20p and 50p and we are European , most of us don't want to be, but that's another story.
