Australia is all in all extremely peaceful as the Australian way is to give every body a fair go.We don`t pick on the underdog in fact we support the underdog be it in sport, business or just the bloke next door. We are the first to offer genuine physical help to our fellow Australians because of our spirit of mateship.
This spirit of mateship has it foundations in how we were settled. A bunch of petty criminals transported to the colony of New South Wales who either looked after each other or perished in the attempt. We were formed in the most part by English and Irish with a good smattering of Scots (whom I descended from)
This same mateship carried us into the armed services and our value as a force, all be it small, to be dealt with is the stuff of legends. We have NEVER had to fight a war on our own soil but we are the first to put our hand up to help others.
I do not wish to name names but the leader of one nation much bigger and more powerful questioned the words of our Prime Minister at the forming of the League of Nations after the war of 1914==18.
This leader asked William (BILLY) Hughes "Just who do you represent Mr Hughes?" Billy replied "I represent over 60thousand Australian dead"
Sadly and I do mean sadly the shrinking of our world is slowly but surely bringing in influences we can do without. Our politicians are no longer men who worked for a living at normal jobs. They are career politicicans who wouldn`t know what a real job was. One previous Prime Minister was a train driver before politics. How much closer can you get to the coal face.
World powers continue to exert influence on us to follow the leader. After the isolation we enjoyed the world in most cases envies us but want us to change. Make sense of that? I can`t.

I would add in most areas we feel save to walk the streets without fear. The major crimes are committed by other than Australian Australians, the drug trade is a prime example. We still, in my area pass somone walking on the beach and say G`day. We are not perfect but we are bloody close. You may guess I am proud of my heritage.

I'm a Scot, we have suffered centuries of abuse from the English, that's why we drink so much.
Maybe your excessive drinking is what made you easy pickings by the Brits. Now sober up or I'll gie ye a skelpit lug!
