Definitly. Not only will the draft turn boys into men, but it will help educate and create tradesmen out of the many low lifes that fall to drugs and crime. The US would have less druggies, criminals and a safer nation. An increase in our military population can be used to protect our own borders and help curtail the illegals from entering the USA. Think about it, less welfare and less illegals results in a richer and smarter country. Honestly, are you happy with the current situation?

President Nixon formed the Gates Commission to look into ending the military service draft, implemented under President Johnson. The Gates Commission issued its report in February 1970, describing how adequate military strength could be maintained without conscription. The draft was extended to June 1973, and then ended.
Worst thing a US President ever did.......in my opinion

The military is more professional than when I soldiered for six years active duty. I prefer sharing a foxhole with people who freely joined as compared to Draftees who were part of my world.
Still there are a myriad of reasons for a draft. Chief among them is helping to ensure that young people mature before entering society. The military has a way of mentoring and kicking butt when necessary. Maturity is earned and soldiers tend to return home with a perspective that school and non-military cultures cannot provide.
For those who are too immature, effeminate or unable to enter the military due to mental or othe issues, the civilian sector could easily accommodate with two years of labor in various insitututions such as state hospitals, transportation, farm work etc.
Yes, a draft should be reformed and required immediately following high school graduation.
