madison, i'm sorry you got this response from people who should know what kind of topical you could put on your cat to help him. cats don't usually need baths but if you do bathe him, use kitty shampoo. i think you should call again and research on google. i feel bad for your situation because i had an old, fat, mean cat. he had troubles under his tail. the vet refused to treat him cuz he was mean (the cat) two vets just said we should put him down. such heart ache for me. (and i think for you)

thats sad, iam so sorry poor cat i have giveing him a bath about every 4 mo or so i have been useing medicated antibcterial shampoo for dogs, it may seem to help but only for a few days and it makes soft and smell good but its a short time fix i want it to go away! maybe its just him and their is no fix i will always keep trying for my rusty baby madisondie
The itching can be caused by allergies and if you've changed your kittys then he could be allergic to something else in your house. I had a cat who was actually allergic to my male boxer it formed an allergic swelling on her ear.
Too many baths and using the wrong shampoo can be aggravating his skin. Check for fleas. If he has a flea allergy even one bite will cause him to itch all the time. If you don't like what a vet tells you, SEE ANOTHER VET! I'm sorry Madison but I find it hard to believe the vet told you to change his food for an itch unless test were done to find out it was a food allergy. What did he say the cat was allergic to in the food?

it was not that he was allergic to the food, its that some food is more for skin then others you know how they have food for hairball or like olded pets ect.ect.i only have given his baths like every 3 mos or so not to many,i feel bad for my old baby, he 11 and a indoor cat i have never seen a flea on him thank you for your thoughts madisondie

OK, I misunderstood then. If the cat is still going nuts scratching, call your vet and let him/her know the change of food did not help. The vet may prescribe a steroid to control the itching.

i bet that would work a steroid ,when i had a itch thing going on thats what they gave me
call the vet or call the animal shelter. do it right away. your cat is realllllly uncomfortable. please respond so that i know you got my answer. ok?
