Coral also needs THE SUN to grow.

    Warm salt water

    78-83 degrees average water temperature

    Short time 66 degrees F to 95 degrees F

Sunshine, and shallow water less than 70 feet deep

    Small amounts of nutrients

Only found in parts of the ocean near 30 degrees north latitude and 30 degrees south latitude

Do you possibly know why it needs warm salt water to grow?

Looking but not reading specifically why the water needs to be warm. I guess its like any other form of life on this planet. If the temperatures are too cold TREES won't grow either. (Arctic) Scroll down the page. I see something that might help you.
