GERMANTOWN, Md. - An 18-year-old Germantown man is dead and two family members injured after their car collided with a dump truck early Friday.
The accident closed the intersection of Md. 118 and Middlebrook Road and portions of both roads for more than 7 hours Friday morning, disrupting the commutes of thousands who use Interstate 270.
The collision at 1:05 a.m. Friday involved a 2006, four-door Audi and a large dump truck.
"The passenger vehicle entered into the intersection on a flashing red light," says Montgomery County Police Officer Amy Damy.
The truck had a flashing yellow light.
The impact of the collision pushed the car through the intersection.
Police identified the driver who died at Shady Grove Hospital as Ivar Ramiro Candia, 18, of Germantown. His cousin, 33-year-old Rodolfo Louis Nogales, also of Germantown, and his 17-year-old brother, Jonathan Candia, were passengers in the car.
Nogales, who was the front seat passenger, is listed in critical condition.
Jonathan Candia, a Northwest High School student, is in stable condition at Suburban Hospital.
The dump truck driver, Roger Terry Anthony, 58, of Burtonsville, was not injured.
Police say the circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation. They are asking anyone who saw what happened to call 301-840-2435.
