WHY ARE PEOPLE TO BE BAPTIZED?

WHY ARE PEOPLE TO BE BAPTIZED?
    • I Pet. 3:21 It saves us
    • Acts 2:38 To receive remission of sins
    • Acts 22:16 To wash our sins away
    • Rom. 6:3-6 To get into Christ; To have unity;
    • To get a new life; To crucify self; To be
    resurrected
    • Rom 6:4, 5 To receive a new birth; To become free from sin
    • I Cor. 12:13 To get into the body
    • Col. 2:11, 12 So sin can be circumcised from our heart
    • Gal 3:27 To clothed ourselves with Christ

It is often said that baptism is an outward sign of an inward grace. Where is the Bible verse for that? Some say to show publically that you have accepted Christ as your personal savior? Where is the Bible verse for that?

Get baptized to show that you have committed your self to the verses you list. Some feel the change there some have felt it before the baptisms, but baptism does not save you alone. It is your outward sign of an inward grace, weather you made that choice before or during the baptism.

Where did you read that baptism is an outward sign of an inward grace? I don't think that is in the Bible. Thanks for answering.
    Headless Man

That is a persons explanation of the deed.
i think you mean spititual baptism which happens the moment accept christ, physicil baptism only shows the world were not ashamed to be christian. baptism is not a pre reck. for salvation.take for eaxmple theif on the cross next to christ, in his dieing moments christ redemed him through acceptance and faith ,never was he baptised
When people are baptised it means that they accept God into their life and wish to become spiritually enlightened.

    Sounds pretty good. Thanks

    Good.
    Randy,
It seems to me that there is some type standard to help us understand communication. If we can interpret what others say any way we want then there is no limit to the conclusions we draw. Words have a meaning. Words are defined by the way they are used. If we decide to interpret green for red or go for stop we are likely to have difficulty traveling through town. Why would anyone want to place his own (interpretation) on words God said? God did not say that baptism is an outward sign of an inward grace. But he said we are saved at the point of baptism.
WHITCH BAPTISM PASSAGES ARE WATER BAPTISM?

Baptized in the name of the Lord is baptism in water
Baptized in name of Lord is water baptism because Acts. 8:16, Acts 10:47, 48; Acts 19:5; Mt 28:19 say so. And we are never commanded to be Holy Spirit baptized. Holy Spirit baptism is never said to be in the name of the Lord.

Acts 8:12 same context as Acts 8:16 therefore water baptism
    Acts 8:38 says water baptism
Acts 10:48 baptized in name of Lord therefore water baptism and Acts 10:47 says water
Acts 19:5 baptized in name of Lord therefore water baptism and Acts 19:5 shows that the Holy Spirit came AFTER THE baptism
Mt 28:19 baptized in name of Lord therefore water baptism
Rom. 6:1-6 this baptism must be water baptism because the Holy Spirit had not yet come see Acts 19:5 and Rom 1:11
Jn 3:5 is water baptism because water is mentioned. (Further proof is available)
Acts 2:38 is water baptism because it is in the name of Jesus
Acts 2:41 is water baptism because it is in the same context as Acts. 2:38
Acts 9:18, 22:16 are water because you don’t have to get up to get Holy Spirit baptized (Acts 22:16
Get up, be baptized; Acts 2:2 they were sitting)
Matt 3:11 I baptize you with water. John’s baptisms were in water
John 4:1 “Jesus was gaining and baptizing more disciples than John”. Since they are being compared they must be the same type baptism. Jesus’ disciples baptized more people in water than John.

WAS THE THIEF ON THE CROSS SAVED WITHOUT BAPTISM?
    I have three observations

FIRST: the likelihood IS that the thief WAS baptized. The Scriptures say…
Mk 1:5 “All of Jerusalem & Judea” were baptized
Mt 3:5, 6 “All around Jordan (Five provinces) were baptized”
    Lk 3:7 “Multitudes” were baptized
Jn 4:1 “Jesus baptized more than John”

The likelihood was that the thief was baptized, fell away and repented on the cross. Or was convicted for an earlier crime after he was baptized as Ben Laden paid for his crime 10 years after committing it.

SECOND: The thief lived under a different religious system than we. He died before the New Testament was established. Col 2:14-15 KJV “Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to His cross...”
When Christ died on the cross He did away with the Old Testament method of receiving forgiveness. Heb 9:15-17 KJV “And for this cause He is the mediator of the new testament... FOR WHERE A TESTAMENT IS, THERE MUST ALSO OF NECESSITY BE THE DEATH OF THE TESTATOR. FOR A TESTAMENT IS OF FORCE AFTER MEN ARE DEAD: OTHERWISE IT IS OF NO STRENGTH AT ALL WHILE THE TESTATOR LIVETH.”

The thief on the cross lived and received his promise under the First Testament. The second Testament and its method of forgiveness was established AT Jesus’ death.

Third: Let’s go back to the top. What did God say the one baptism (Eph 4:5) was for? It saves, it produces redemption of sins, it is where sins are washed away, etc, etc. There is no passage in the Bible that orders people to be baptized in the Holy spirit.
