A dual Mass flywheel reduces engine vibration to the drivetrain, also eliminates jarring and thumps during gear changes, good for smooth transitions. They are fine as long as no mods are done to the engine. Dual mass systems are 'tuned' to the engine's torque curve.. any engine changes you will be asking for problems. It is like two flywheels in one separated by springs to absorb the vibrations. Sometimes when too much torque is applied, it will slip.. Not too good for racing.. LOL

Thanks Vinny. Having fitted a new starter motor only 6 months ago, it has now stopped working. I have been told that these type of flywheels can be the cause. However i am at aloss to how/why. Can you possibly enlighten me?...confused LOL
If the starter motor was installed improperly then I am pretty sure this is why. If it 'whirs' it could be because the shims aren't seated properly or worse, it broke teeth or the pinion is broke. IMHO, I think you have a bad starter motor install-- There's several things that a bad install could be, including the wrong starter motor. if you took it to the same mechanic that did the original starter work (you?) I'm pretty confident he won't take the blame... You might want to have another mechanic look at it. Tuff to do when it won't run and possibly sitting on the original mechanic's lot..
