No sense of humor Papitou? I see you gave me a thumbs down but didn't chose to answer the question your self. Please, enlighten us.
    Papitou

Oh, your answer was a (not very educated) joke? I have nothing to enlighten anybody with.

You're Mexican. Are you a resident of the USA? Please share how we've impacted your life if you are.

Out of the thousands of valid answers I give here, I think I'm allowed a few humorous answers, especially when it's someones homework. We do not do homework.
    Papitou

I'm not Mexican. There are other kinds of Hispanics, too (that elongated, twisted shape dangling from the bottom side of the US - that is latin america).

As I said, your answer didn't sound humorous.
    Papitou

And by the way, latin american cultures are western societies as well (at least nobody ever told me I was asian or oriental in any other way).

Maybe not but it's true all the same. They take money and hate us at the same time. What do you know about American relations with other countries and their relations with us? We give Pakistan billions each year and they allowed Osama to hide out in their country. My answer is a valid one even if it was based in humor.

"And by the way, latin american cultures are western societies"

Yes, I know. I was just wondering what you thought if you're not natural born to the USA.
    Papitou

What do YOU know about your country's relations with other nations? In any case, you only know what your media let you become aware of. ALL media of this planet are biased according to their target group. How many of those other perspectives have you had the chance to listen to? No nation simply gives money out of altruism. That would be wonderful, I wish it were so. There is always an expectation for retribution implicit. I am privileged because I have always had shoes on my feet, food in my fridge (I have a fridge!) and could go to university. But an incredible amount of human potential in this world gets wasted away by political, military, economic and social abuse. The majority of people (PEOPLE = HUMAN BEINGS) lives under circumstances where their supposedly inherent right on happiness and self realization gets crushed by those who hold political and economic or even religious power. And I don't care whether they are western or asian or african, white, black or green with pink spots on them: they are all human and deserve to have a fulfilled life.

Colleen, I have never lived in the US, I haven't even gone there for holidays. The only thing I have seen of your country is the inside of Chicago and Miami airport. So no, I am not a US resident, nor have I ever tried to become one.

I am not saying your answer is invalid. From your perspective and considering the media you have at your disposition, it is valid and logical.

And no, I do not have any special knowledge that would help or "enlighten" anyone. Simply another perspective, which is just as subjective as yours.

Then my answer did not deserve a thumbs down based on my view point of how other cultures perceive the US. They will gladly take our money but hate us just the same.

Colleen, I agree with you based on what the media and and our Goverment is telling us. But what is the REAL Reason we are giving so much money to other countries
when our country is so much in dept and many people
live below the povertyline, homeless people and mentally ill people roam the streets looking for shelter and food.Do you think other countries are not aware what is happening away from the Whitehouse or behind the statue of Liberty? Maybe thats the Reason they dont like us, because we dont care about those
    unfortunate people.

I don't think people of other nations (unless they are being personally affected) bother to look beyond the statue of liberty. Especially when I hear them talk about how spoiled Americans are because we have everything. I think a lot of them hate us because they believe we all have what they do not have. I really don't think they see our people in great need. They quickly put their hands out for the money we offer them however when we should actually be giving it to our own people. Others hate us because their religion teaches them to hate those who do not follow their God. We are the infidel in their eyes.

How we help other people is the more important question because money does not solve the problems of everyone in an emerging culture. I think uplifting a culture can not be expressed in material ways because things are just another form of money....and money and things are diverting interest away from what is so much more important. A culture is uplifted by the practices exercised by the people. Song, dance, theater, stories, music, literature and art. The people grow wise when wisdom is respected, art allowed to grow like a flower, patience practiced, and love honored and above all else.
We relieve them of a few less terrorists.
    Papitou

You relieve them of a few less terrorists? What you are saying, then, is you are providing them with more. There is some irony implicit in your bad grammar, you know?
We give some them lots of money so they can complain about us.

I know a Nisha. Are you from India too?
Our standards in regards to individual rights and freedom are the envy of the world in my opinion, and jealousy drives this anti American frenzy (you call it western civilization). What this country has accomplished since it's inception is incredible. And our technology (the internet) which is shared with other societies has allowed them to look into what can be their future.
Sometime ago a group of scientists ventured into an area which supposedly was no longer occupied by a tribe of peoples indigenous to the area, to their surprise this illusive group of people appeared their chief was wearing of all things his foster grant shades and listening to his walkman with his baseball cap on backwards. I guess western civilization has no boundaries.
When I look at how western culture has affected other cultures, the answer is very negatively. We help one group with weapons, medicine, food' etc and the unblessed neighbors riot and kill those we helped to get what we did not give them. Nothing has harmed more people on the planet than aid. Give them food and the balance in the region becomes unbalanced and vital trade comes to a stop. All of their children live and by the time the children are ten they are killing everyone. If we give more aid more children grow up and their dependence on aid rises dramatically. We have to slow down on the aid and there is genocide in the region and millions die. Aid is not just a way to inspire war but our progressive dependence upon international trade is making US into ignorant savages who can't provide for ourselves in any meaningful way. Americans are great at money management, banking and recognizing the difference between Coors Draft and Budweiser. Survival skills however is the armchair equal to reading a book on survival skills. What could close the door on this issue more than the sound of silence when the electrical power goes off. We are so dependent it is scary.
    Papitou

There is a difference between aid and real help:
The aid you refer to is like giving people fried fish to eat, but not even showing them where the lake or the ocean is. Real help would be showing them where and how to catch fish and letting them become independent. But that is just what many wealthy nations are afraid of, because that would mean a number of new competitors for vital ressources on this planet are rising. There are very few cases of authentic help.

Now why should anyone need help in the first place? Well, because due to colonialism and other culturally invasive acts the original structures of survival and socialization have been mutilated, and were not substituted with a sustainable alternative structure, hence people are left without a functional socioeconomic system to integrate into and operate within.

Note that I am not mentioning any nations. This process has happened repeatedly throughout history. What makes today's situation different is the geographic scale the problem is assuming. As practically all regions of the planet can interact on numerous levels thanks to modern communication and transport systems, everybody is drawn into that wealth and poverty, power and submission game. It is a global phenomenon that affects us all.

You're what they call a bleeding heart, aren't you? You think the rest of the world is responsible for cultures that hold onto traditions and a government that keep progress from knocking at their door. In this day and age, no one should be taught how to fish, they should already know. They chose not to modernize. Now they just want handouts. Not mentioning any nations.
    Papitou

Why should my heart be bleeding? I'm not Jesus, nor Mary, nor... You seem to be really frustrated, though. Sorry for that.

Why don't you go travel a bit? I suppose maybe you have already done so physically, but it gets really stimulating when you take your mind and your heart with you.

    Cheerioh,

And also, if your government gives countries who shelter terrorists a lot of money, there are only two possibilities:
    a) The folks you voted are plain dumb or
    b) The folks you voted have a hidden agenda that might not please you.

"You seem to be really frustrated, though."

Please do not guess at what you think I'm feeling.

I've no need to travel. I know people all over the world and speak to them frequently. I listen to the people, not their governments. All government officials have their own agendas, that's a given, no matter what country you live in. Pakistan lied and denied knowing where Osama was. What do you do with a lying government? Make it's people suffer? Would you rather we just go and shoot our leaders when they are found to be inept yet still have time left in their term? We can really only impeach them if they break the laws of the Constitution. We only have two choices when it comes time to elect a president. Sometimes it comes down to choosing the lesser of two evils but at least we CAN vote and do not have to deal with an evil dictator for decades.

As for the bleeding heart bit, it was not intended to be religious, but political. Like the bleeding heart liberals of the USA. Sorry, for a bit there in your speech, you sounded like one of them.
