Do you mean oil or do you mean transmission fluid?

    1 Answer

one can check by removing the fill hole plug and see if fluid runs out...if it does youre good! if not, then you need to atleast add some. if at all possible, change the filter too! do some research and get a how to on changing fluid and filter!

If you need to change as well...

    1
Drive your car for approximately five miles (or 10 minutes) prior to changing the fluid. This places the transmission oil in its thinnest state, allowing for proper drainage.

    2
Park your Jetta on a level surface, so that the transmission plan is not tilted when you remove it from under the car.

    3
Place the drip pan on the ground, under the transmission pan, so that it will catch the fluid when the plug is released.

    4
Remove the transmission pan's drain plug, so that the fluid will fall directly into the drip pan below.

    5
Use the 17 mm socket wrench to unscrew each of the bolts around the transmission pan until the pan easily lowers to the ground.

    6
Wipe the transmission pan thoroughly with the moist rag and degreaser.

    7
Reattach all of the transmission pan's bolts back into their original position and tighten, making sure that the pan is flush against the transmission, so that no fluid will spill out after the refill.

    8
Turn on the ignition and open the hood while the car is running.

    9
Press the emergency brake completely to the floor, so that your Jetta does not accidentally roll.

    10
Find the yellow cap for the fill port at the left side of the transmission unit.

    11
Twist the fill port cap and set it aside during the refill.

    12
Place the funnel into the fill port opening.

    13
Begin pouring the transmission fluid into the fill port, using caution. Pour the fluid directly into the funnel; do not spill over the sides.

    14
Shift the gears of the car slowly from "Park" to "Neutral," to "Drive," to "Reverse" and back to "Park." Do this after the second quart of transmission fluid pushes the transmission fluid through the system and lubricates the components of the gears, also providing a better reading from the fill port.

    15
Pour the third quart of transmission fluid through the funnel slowly, stopping when the fluid seems to slow down. This means that the fluid is probably at or close to fill capacity.

    16
Use the dipstick that is attached to the yellow fill port cap to measure the fluid in the transmission opening. When the dipstick indicates that the fluid has reached maximum capacity, replace the yellow cap and close the hood. The transmission fluid change is now complete.
