Researches show that salt reduction keeps our blood vessels helathy for long, and thus decrease the chances for getting cardio vascular diseases in the future.

The problem is not salt itself, but the sodium in it. The recommended amount of sodium per day for someone who's over 18 years old is less then 2400 mg per day. you can check different labels on the food you buy and see how easy it is to take more then the recommended amount per day.
In the long run if you reduce your salt intake you will stop retaining as much water in your tissues (i.e. you will lose weight).
