By living the Golden Rule. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. So if you don't want bad KARMA or something else worse don't do it. Always tell the truth, don't steal, be a decent human being. One that some of you might under stand. Pay it forward. Last but not least live your life today like there is no tomorrow.

Serious answer... copied from one I did for somebody else. OK?
It's a rating. If a member thinks you've asked a good question.. provokes debate... amusing... or something you need help with... they can mark yout Kalma up. The same if people agree with your answer, or find it amusing... whatever. You can mark people down too, but that's something you should think hard about. I think it's better to answer the question yourself if you disagree with their answer, or add a comment. Quite where the rating gets you is a mystery to me. The first day I was on site I wasn't allowed to vote anyone up: my own rating wasn't high enough, but that seems to have changed. I guess it's one way of saying thank you if an answer helps you. Actually I don't agree with Bulletman now, but I think he feels that way because people have been voting him down, which is mean. I'll make a start to put that right. (If I try to vote for him twice it makes his rating worse,) Rating: 2 Posted: 2011-04-26 12:02:12

Colleen added a comment to this, explaining more, but I don't have a copy. She did say if 3 people found an answer offensive she would remove it.
Also that people with enough karma SHOULD vote down sometimes, if they feel an answer is OTT.
She's around, & may be along to check this out.
She doesn't miss much :-)

This type of forum really relies on it's senior members to help moderate it. Serious questions should be answered seriously. I've seen serious questions asked where a member has come along and said things like, "I don't know" or "who cares" or even "shut up". Those comments should be voted down. These are the types of people we do not want having enough karma to cast down votes as they do not take the forum or the karma system seriously. This is the part suliz was referring to when she said I said people should vote others down. If a person puts out too many shut ups and rude comments just to be an azz, they are suspended. Respect is key here. Something to remember also is that if you vote someone down, you also lose 10 karma points. It's designed that way to hopefully get you to really think first before voting down. So your choices are to respond back to them and tell them their rudeness is not welcome, vote them down or if you feel they are really out of line, you can report their comment by clicking the "report" link or by going to the "contact" link found at the bottom of this page if there is not report link. The best way to find out what the members of this forum allow and do not allow is to watch how the others here comment. Karma is a good reflection of your communities trust in your ability to give good solid answers. How the community responds to you is a gauge the admins go by when selecting moderators to give moderating tasks to. CHEATING to build your karma is not tolerated. Cheating is handled at the digression of the administrators. They take the karma system very seriously.
