Why is one side of a set of double doors rarely unlocked during business hours?

I've almost yanked my arm out of its socket a few times. Grrrrrrrrrr…...

I feel sure they have a valid explanation, on your next visit, inquire within.

If only it were so simple. That didn't work. I got the blank stares….."I'm not sure." "I've never noticed that." "Is one always locked?" That's why I asked aka members. I was SURE that someone here already knew the reason.

    ....traffic pattern, security, forgetfulness

    ....ugh, not sure

So both doors do not swing open or closed at the same time.i guess it is a safety issue..>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<..http://healthfacilityguidelines.com/Guidelines/ViewPDF/iHFG/iHFG_part_c_doors

(Link doesn't work for me.) Why would it matter if 2 doors open simultaneously? Buildings being built as we speak, have double doors so I don't think it could have anything to do with safety, since we have safety bylaws coming out of our ears these days.

because they're too lazy to unlock the other door. Or , so thieves can't get large items, like pianos out the door.
