Help! I was just cooking spaghetti, fell asleep, no water left in pot, but spaghetti stuck to pot.

I managed to scrape half off with a fork. How do I get the other half off the bottom of the inside of the pot? Thanks.

Despite the most attentive cooking, sometimes pasta becomes stuck to the bottom of the pot during cooking. Perhaps it happens while you are boiling the pasta or after the pasta is finished and you are adding other ingredients to finish the recipe. Whatever the situation, getting rid of pasta that is stuck to the bottom of the pot is a simple process of soaking and then scrubbing.

    Step 1

Place the cooking pot in the sink and fill it with 2 to 3 inches of hot water. Add a squirt of dishwashing detergent to the hot water and swirl to create suds in the water. Allow the pot to soak for approximately 20 minutes.

    Step 2

Empty the water from the pan and use the wooden spoon to scrape off larger pieces of the pasta remaining on the bottom of the pot. Rinse the pot in warm water to wash the pasta away.

    Step 3

Add another inch of warm water and another squirt of dishwashing detergent. Use the mesh scrubbing pad to scrub the remaining pasta. Work until all pieces of stuck pasta are gone and the bottom of the pot is clean.

    Step 4

Wash the pot in the standard fashion with additional dishwashing detergent and a dishcloth. Rinse the pot in clear water and dry the pot with a dishtowel to finish.

....soak it in hot water 20-30minutes with dish soap

    ....some use baking soda

Soak in water, dish soap and baking soda for about 48 hours. That will minimize the scrubbing required. I suppose you've heard that you don't leave things cooking on the stove, unattended? People often die from that activity!

Thanks. I've seen commercials for Dawn Soap, where oil is removed from ducks. I suppose that you only take a bath using baby oil. My mother left me in the oven for 9 months with no ill-affects. LOL https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpXx1C-0X0w

@ Ducky: That's right, no ill affects. I'm sure she never envisioned that one day, I'd have over 300,000 karma.

I think she would be proud of your time "well wasted"! lol

Depending on the degree of residue left in the pot will determine how much 'elbow grease' is required. For optimal results, simply apply a little oven cleaner, or any abrasive cream, onto the burnt in residue and with a small piece of fine steel wool rub vigorously. In next to no time you will have a sparkling 'new' pot. I promise!

west-bus:: Thanks, I won't. While cooking, I'll go onto akaQA. Hopefully, that won't put me to sleep!

Thanks, Roy. thought mcm had responded,;it was west-bus. I corrected it,..."and the pot"!

You could always try soaking in Coka-Cola too :)

Boy, I know me by now. I have to put my noodles on and stay in the kitchen while I prepare everything that will go with the noodles.

That way when my phone alarm goes off, I'm right there :D

You can get anything off of a pot or pan by spraying vinegar on it; and like Ben said, you could soak it first with water that has baking soda in it.

Clonge be careful.  Have a beautiful day!!!

Thanks! I'll tell that to the pot. Hopefully it'll let go of the spaghetti..., unless it's hungry, LOL!

Put water in it then back on the stove to boil. Easiest quickest way to get it to come off. Use a metal spatula to help scrape the bottom.
