I ask because I just finished going through 12 feet of hanging clothes to give away. Mostly my mom’s beautiful outfits that I had coveted when she was alive. I won’t have an opportunity ever to wear them. Just so sad to let go......

It's time to let go, immediately upon asking yourself that question. That's when your heart is speaking to you in a loud, clear voice. "Hanging on" only pushes the responsibility onto someone else at a later date. Not fair!

My mother use to make my clothes until she stopped sewing about 6 years ago. I always hated getting rid of things my mom made. It's hard to get rid of anything we cherish. But we must, to make room for the new things that keeps coming to us. It could be a kid, grownup, cat, dog or bird. We need to be thankful forever. I hate to get rid of my own things too, but I do.

It is hard when an old dog going blind , cant hardly walk, heart problems, in some pain, just not easy take to vet and have put to sleep. When do you know ?

Oh, that's a question I can't answer. I have an eclectic assortment of things from "the past", including a toddler's hair brush, dress for a 6 month old, worn out stuffed animals, an angel made with a paper place mat, construction paper, some stickers, and a pipe cleaner. I have cigarette holders (think Hepburn) in every color, as my aunt was very stylish.
When you can't justify keeping it, or the value - sentimental or otherwise is gone, or you've no place to put it, you can probably get rid of it.

I'm very sentimental and emotional about getting rid of my parent's things. I've got mostly my mom's things...which isn't too much. She got rid of his things when he died in 1985.
