Rugby League coming to New York..Waddya reckon ?????????

Do you think Americans would go and watch it..??????????>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<..           PROSPECTIVE Super League club New York are prepared to offer $1 million deals to Cameron Smith and Billy Slater to promote rugby league in America when the Maroons duo retire from the NRL.

New York consortium spokesman Ricky Wilby accepts there are critics who believe the prospect of rugby league succeeding in the Big Apple is a foolish, and expensive, pipedream.

But with the World Cup to be hosted by the US and Canada in 2025, the clock is ticking for the sport’s powerbrokers to ensure rugby league has some presence and relevance in the North American market.

Last month, the New York consortium tabled a $30 million business plan to England’s Rugby Football League. Their hope is to play in the UK Super League by 2019 or 2020.

Since that development, Wilby says more than 60 players, including current NRL stars, have expressed interest, via their agents, in playing for a New York team.

The explosion of interest has prompted the consortium to draw up a hit list of potential recruits, with Wilby confirming the prospective franchise is keen to sound out Smith and Slater about their plans for life after the NRL.

They will learn to toughen up old mate..>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<...

lt will be a long time before the Americans pick up the real skill levels of countries that have played it for a very long time, they still struggle with football(soccer), although their International team are better than Scotlands' at the moment, and we invented the sport, still, they didn't qualify for the World cup, same as us!

Depends on the players and coach Roy,,New Zealands main sport is Rugby Union, but they hired Aussie coach Wayne Bennet to coach them, and they beat us,,Brittian did the same thing, and they came within a whisker of beating Aussie in the world cup..so i guess if USA want to be in it,they gotta start somewhere..and with Smith and Slater helping out, they will fly ahead from where they are now..And there is 350,000 kiwi, brits and aussies living in New York..so there is your fan base.>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<..

I’d love to see a real live game. I get ththe gists of the rules. I’m ready to be impressed. Bring it on!
