      Yes, the selective draft act 1917, bit late IMHO...https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selective_Service_Act_of_1917

        they prob did it b/c they didn't have enough men. When that happened in the Iraq wars, they simply took our National Guardsmen and women that had children

        Bigger concern in 1914, it was the same in WW2, took a wee hit in Hawai to get the USA to take notice.
