Ever use a pressure cooker? What on?

I made very tender pintos this evening but it frightened me. My grandfather was a country doctor with plenty of horror stories about pressure cookers......

My mom's uncle was country doctor too, in the woods of Wisconsin. He used to ride his horse to his patients' homes .

Did he tell tales of pressure cooker accident horrors?

JH make sure the hole is clear the seals are good and don't over fill, I think that's the biggest problem is people over fill them and the food, plugs the small hole. Be sure you listen when it's hissing. If it stops get it off the heat.

Yes we do, alot, we have 4 total, two of them are big canners, and one 4 qt and one 8 qt. I can put a big old tough roast in for 1/2 an hr cool it down quick add carrots, taters,, onions, garlic, put the heat back to it for another 10-15 minutes, and it's done.. In well under an hour. The roast comes out very moist and tender.. now I'm starting to get hungry..

    Never have,and probably never will,,my wife is the cook,and a good one..>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<..

Pressure cookers frighten the heebie jeebies out of me. I will not step foot in a kitchen if someone is using a pressure cooker. My grandfather uses his to this very day.

I inherited my grandmother's and used it twice. Both times I hid behind the wall and then knocked the pressure cooker dial what ever it's called with a broom stick!

Yes, many times in past years. I used to do a lot of canning....tomatoes, beans, fish. So nice to have fresh food in the middle of our long winters.

You've been all over the world. Have you tried those appealing dishes?

Been further North, but I was on a very big ship, we had very good provisions on these very big ships, even the mushrooms were cooked until black, black was the colour then, I really loved our chefs.

Maybe seal and blubber should be cooked until black?

Like Ducky, my mom used to use it for canning. She did canning every summer with it.
