Are you a salesman? Can you sell?

I came in second in the country for promoting the new DISCOVER card. We had a workable pitch.....

With quality to sell, yes; I wouldn't even try to sell something I didn't believe was quality.

No GOOD salesperson would sell anything that they couldn't believe in.

I was very good. She didn't mention "good"!
There were times I discouraged sales when I knew they were wrong.

I know she didn't mention good. "Good" was my word. Not overselling (for the sake of a sale) is also GOOD. :)

The extended warranties were up sells that just put money in the stores coffers, as well as the store credit card. Hated to push those...

Agreed. "We" know that extended warranties rarely kick in anyway and are a waste of money.

Nope. I tried to convince a group of approx 100 women to sell Tupperware to raise money for charity and not one person showed any interest.

Selling, like any other job, takes training. There is more to selling than just talking, so success cannot be expected without it.

I agree with you, Ducky. I used to be terrified of having to stand in front of the classroom to give a speech, to the point it made me sick to my stomach. The Tupperware promotion was the first/last time, as an adult that I stood in front of a crowd , I was a nervous wreck and it showed.

Same here. In school, I would literally throw up before giving a speech....hated it.

    Yes, I can sell but I'm a salesperson not a salesman.         :)

Thank you for the correction.I kind of wracked my brain on that one but I'm rushing now....

Young salesmen even call themselves salespersons! Language changes Terry. Sounds as though you're starting a sales job? Don't call a potential customer and introduce yourself as a 'salesMAN'. They'll know you're old!

That aint the only way they will know i am old Duck,,besides i still prefer the older ways..and no way would i try selling stuff to people..>>>>>><<<<<<<<..

I work in a carpet shop, so I  am a salesman yes, but I am always honest with people. I wouldn't try to sell something just to get a sale, if I think something is crap I tell them .

I had my own business for 25 years, and I was the same then, too honest for my own good really.  But I can sleep at night.

I think it is 'normal' for a salesperson to be honest. That is how you get repeat business, referred business and a great reputation, not to mention a great sleep. :)

Nope,i could not sell a leather jacket to an Eskimo,if i have something to sell,it will either sell itself or not..>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<..

You COULD sell refrigerators to Eskimos, if you were interested enough to take sales training. Anyone can learn.

Okay Duck, any chance of me selling you the Sydney Harbour Bridge, i promise you a good price..>>>>>><<<<<<<<..PS.if i could sell a fridge to an Eskimo, that would mean i was a good con man,or i got me a slow Eskimo..>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<..

    Whatever you say Terry.

Nope. I have a habit of selling things at a low price to avoid "haggling".

Setting a higher price, believe it or not, makes a sale more likely.
