    RSVP

Nearly 90 invites mailed and a 10% response, with two days remaining on the RSVP by request.

There will be a serious lack of refreshments if I don't hear from these clowns.

Do YOU leave a host wondering or do you extend the requested courtesy?  If not, why?

It gets my goat when someone does not RSVP to a (party) invite.  Don't they understand that we are asking so we may make appropriate commendations? It is dang rude not to reply with a yes or a no.

I hear this complaint regularly. It's just common courtesy to respond but another example of manners, gone by the wayside.

If it's a party, I'm going, if it's an invite, I'm answering, I try not to leave anyone wondering or waiting, is there a drink waiting on me?

....we respond and usually ask if we can bring anything.

Hey just found out the American high school football team is heading back to home from Brisbane. They had a great time and enjoyed the country. Oh and they won too. Great experience for them and parents. Wish I could have gone.

    Great news, zorro!

winning is always a bonus Zorro,,did you ever say wherabouts in Brisbane they played..?????..>>>>>>>><<<<<<<..

I will have to ask and get back to you.

I think it's bad manners to not reply, it only takes a minute these days email, phone. I would be annoyed too Bob.

    Bob/PKB

30% response. I asked one guest, in person, if she was coming, and couldn't get a straight answer.
Maybe we are just old-fashioned....fine by me.

I plan for all of the guests when I am hosting.

Not answering RSVPs is just plainly rude.  I overlook the rudeness when I am hosting.  The only party I had where one individual guest did not show up was last summer in July.

I never ever put anyone hosting and inviting us to an event in that position. It usually floors the hosts when I phone or answer with a card.  I am also like Benthere and his wife, I ask what I can bring.

I feel your pain. This is what I do.... plan for everyone, expect nothing and enjoy the people who show up.  ... Usually everyone does :)

I've got everything but the food ready to go!

    You are Super Woman.

    The easy part

It sounds like you mailed them out too soon. I don't know what your event is but if it's something formal like a wedding or christening, you can't cut it too close either.

Fact is, if the RSVP due date is even just a couple of weeks away, most people will put it off and likely miss the date.

    What's the event?

    Bob/PKB

Baby shower. Mailed them 3 weeks in advance. None came back undeliverable. It didn't say "regrets only".
One friend called to talk about some stuff we're working on, said she got the invitation, and didn't say if she was coming or not.
    I almost give up. Almost.
    digger

3 weeks is reasonable by snail mail. Here's the fun part. Now you quickly set up a small team of outbound telephone callers and as distasteful an exercise as this may be, your team phones up each guest and rhetorically asks whether they received the invitation. Most of those that do intend on attending will say they just received it the other day or some other BS line but that's just the way it is.
Personally, I'd prefer to downsize and then turn away at the door those that didn't bother replying but showed up anyway.
Bottom line: Don't take it personally. If you want the shower to be a success...and you do...just roll up your sleeves, whip out that Rollodex and start dialing.
Good luck and hopefully, however few or many guests do show up, they'll come with generous gifts. ;-)
    Bob/PKB

Groan. I'm just gonna plan for 30.
And never host a baby shower again!

What is a baby shower Bob???.If it was at my home we only have one bath room,,
    digger

Hector, The kitchen sink will do. Better still, don't you Euros all own bidets ?
    digger

@Bob. Don't be a grumpy gramma. Be happy, cheerful and positive...LIKE ME !
    Bob/PKB

OK, I'm smiling, digger, and will dazzle with my graciousness. Even you would be impressed.
Hector, a baby shower is like a birthday party, with all the gifts for the benefit of the unborn baby....the expectant mom is usually the guest of honor and opens the presents. My son was given a baby shower for his son, but my son has had custody of his son since the baby's release from the hospital after nearly two months of methadone treatments. In fact, the baby was actually at that party. My grandson is 2 1/2 now, cute as a button, and full of personality. He's small, though, and who knows what difficulties he will face as he grows because his mother thought a needle in her arm was more important than the child she carried.
