I recently slew a dragon which had a screaming damsel cornered in the basement of the dungeon which I was staying at. Upon dragging it out into the bright sunlight, I discovered the damsel was my wife and the dragon appeared to be a garder snake. I didn't tell her the difference, and am still waiting to be knighted Sir Flip.

I've been way too close to all kinds of creatures and I mean waaaay! ;D
A massive brown mountain Bear strolled into my camp one evening along the Thomson River in the great Rocky Mountains... I was in the process of dousing out my fire with dish-water when he strolled down the mountain and out on the river path... I nearly fainted. So I stopped dousing the fire and laid flat on my belly while that Big Bruin stood up on his hindlegs trying to get a look at me but I was grabbing and pulling dry twigs and grasses and stoking the dang fire back up... blowing on it and praying simultaneously ... LOLOMG! The Bear was no more than 20 feet away. He stood there and waved at me so I waved back from my crouch on the ground making plan 'B' [ I intended on jumping into the river ... lol ].
Thank heavens he just dropped to his feet and turned in slow motion and went his way down river ...
Around that same time I also had an old Mountain Lion show up and stick his face in my doorway... he was looking for my dogs who were cowering by then in my bedding rolls... LOL I was cleaning a long rifle at the time but had a second rifle right next to me so I just grabbed it and aimed and to my surprise that ole Lion turned on a dime and fled!!!
I've had many more wildlife encounters ... with Elk, Moose, Deer, a Wolverine once [what a beauty] and all kinds of vermin including a gorgeous pure white Weasel whom I outsmarted by stuffing all the nooks and crannies in my then chicken-coop with steel wool...LOL He was miffed!
Oh yes and Sasquatch-Bigfoot-Yowie-Yeti ... I have had many many encounters with these 'wild' people of the forest ....

went up close to a bear in the Smokies. They're " tame " . but, they tell you not to feed them or get out of your car; but I did both.
Got out of my car in Colorado to take a picture of a steer standing on the road. He lowered his head as if he was getting ready to charge me, so I quickly got back into the car.
Oh, and one time when we were up north on a 2 track looking for a land slide, there was a huge, fat, snake, about 8 ft .long lying across the road. they are not native to Michigan. We couldn't even drive over it. It looked like a big log. so , we got out of the car to look at it, and it crawled away. it was about 4 in. in diameter.

Eye to eye with a raccoon, one night last winter, while taking out the trash. We were about 10 feet apart. Luckily it didn't attack me. There have been some highly publicized attacks in the New York metropolitan area. The raccoons tested positive for rabies.
