Seriously though this is retirement heaven with a tonne of stuff going on ... from extreme sports like skiing, hiking, biking and water sports to the more sublime like live theatre and music, farmer's markets, sight-seeing, great drives and the best fishing and golfing anywhere not to mention motor-bike touring... oh, and Bigfoot seeking! LoL

Do you mean socialism as in the giant bank bailouts? Or the police and fire depts financed by taxpayer dollars. Not to mention state-financed schools! Funny how your establishment doesn't refer to those services as being publicly financed socialism. Only when it comes to health care and higher education...you know...those 2 great equalizers... does uncle Sam scare the bejeezus out of the masses by crying out "SOCIALISM". Have you asked yourself why the rest of the civilized western world gets by with socialized medicine and reasonably affordable tuition fees...but that America simply can't afford to?

The do somethings realize there is nothing to be gained by doing something, so they stop doing something. Next thing you know, no one is doing anything, and everyone ends up with next to nothing.
That's pretty much what we're in the process of accomplishing right now. "Everyone" wants something for nothing.
You're damned right I object to free higher education. I see far too many students NOT in class and screwing around on campus when I'm there. Can you imagine, I'm going to college for personal enrichment, and somebody else's tax dollars pay for it.
IF the health care were provided for everyone on an equal scale, fine. But when I pay $7500/yr AND have deductibles and out of pocket expenses while my cousin gets FREE C-pap machines, reduced utility bills to use it, free elective surgery, and can walk into any hospital she wants and demand admittance (and get it), something is screwed up.
So, digger, you can embrace Bernie and his bullsh/t, snuggle up to Hillary and her bullsh/t, or cuddle up to Donald and his bullsh/t. It's easy to sit in the bleachers and second guess the coach.
And that's what everyone does around here.
AND, I'd still rather live in the USA than anywhere else.
