Elbows on the table, talking with food in your mouth....

Do you have any behaviors at meal time that makes people want to sit somewhere else?

You might want to abandon civilized life there, SallyAnn1, if you have no care or thought to making others gag at the table because you have no couth.

Yeah, I have 'fun' with these people at least once a day, sometimes six or eight responses each. Glad I have nothing else to do. lol

Gee, I think I have been taught good  table manners. I don't place my elbows on the table, eat with my mouth open nor do I smack, slurp, burp or fart while eating.

One thing I'm very(humbly) proud of  is that I taught my son  when we have guests in our home or when we are eating at a restaurant is he should not sit down but  stand behind his chair and wait until every female has set down at the table. He also knows that if during a meal a female stands up to go to the bathroom he must immediately stand up while she is walking away from the table and stand up and acknowledge her  again as she approaches the table and if he is sitting next to her then he must pull her chair out for her.

Ah, the lost art of chivalry

Nowww, wait a cotton-pickin' minute. Unless your son is expected to dine with the Queen of Scotland, I think you've gone waaay too far THIS time ! Opening the occasional door...maybe...but this servitude is out of order, IMHBAO.

Nuthin wrong with a wee bit of chivalry, WATP!!!

Nice to hear someone still has good standards. Around hear if you stood up in a restaurant, someone (probably a child) would take your seat.

Although, I have two great nephews and two great nieces that are all under 7 years old, and they all have impeccable table manners. It's a pleasure to sit at the table with them.

    WOW CB...:):):):):):):).>>>>>>><<<<<<<<..

Jeez! I thought you were talking about my son in law. He comes from a very nice family but his table manners are appalling.

    Bob/PKB

I was going to put him at the kid table, but he doesn't sound like a good example!

I hate bad manners anywhere, but especially at the table. And if I see it I always make a comment, my wife says I'll get myself in trouble one day for speaking my mind, but I don't care.

Hope not, even in our simple council home I like to think my manners are quite good, sometimes there is bad language but certainly not with a mouthful of food, and elbows on the table are definitely a no no, don't smoke any more either, I also consider myself quite cultured compared to the bum neighbours that used to live around me, of course that's just me, I don't give a s**t about anything or anyONE else.

He's not able to show you a receipt ROMOS. lol

My Dad taught us impeccable table manners so no. I do however prefer to eat alone... always have.

    Bob/PKB

I'm used to it, and am OK in public as well as home.
    lindilou

It's funny in a weird sort of way. I don't know why but even as a child I would ask permission to eat alone in my room. I attribute it to a possible past-life experience.... LOL

@lindi...you don't attribute it to you just being a weird little kid? lol

I've always enjoyed eating with people at work, restaurants etc. However, I do need my 'alone' time. I get very tired if I'm with people for long stretches of time, without my 'down' time. Odd. ('They' say that is typical of an ambivert.)
    lindilou

My band used to leave me in the restaraunt while they went and smoked in the parking lot waiting for me to finish. As a result of a busted up jaw I have eaten rather slower than others and it's neat 'cause my Gedo [grampa] used to say 'eat long, live long'.... lol .... yep Ducky I am from a long line of weirdos! LOL 8D

    Good times

At one time when I was in the service we were actually trained on etiquette.. Years ago I could sit down and eat with the Queen of England.. And know what and how to use everything. At the same time they also trained us to sit down with homeless/ bums, junk, trash, and also fit in. I'm just an old country boy, but you do need to fit In to their Society so your not singled out.

    lindilou

That's right cowboy now pass them beans !! LoL

Elbows on the table: Mabel Mabel strong and able, keep your elbows off the table. I’ve gotten real bad about where I put my elbows, so much that I have to consciously think about them when I eat……..

    Me, too

My mother and my aunt drilled it into me - -  table manners, so naturally, I find  appalling the lack of table manners of people in a restaurant and even among my friends. I guess teaching your kids table manners is a lost art. My dad even taught  me a few things about what not to do at the table and what I should do .

    Bob/PKB

I was at a friend's recently for dinner. Corn on the cob from Fresno State....OMG, so good! It was an effort to keep my elbows off the table as I gnawed my way through it!

We gnawed our way through corn on the cob cooked out on the grill tonight and it was lip smacking good. :)
