Duvet, Bedspread or Comforter. Which do you prefer to sleep under?

I've always preferred a bedspread instead of a comforter because a bedspread covers most of the bed and looks nicer when the bed is made. I had heard of a duvet but had not seen one before I moved to the UK. Roy and I sleep under a duvet as does everyone I've met here. They are a pain in the side to change, but boy are they warm and toasty.

I always remember my Grans bed, from mattress up, flannel sheet, Roy+ hot water bottle, flannel sheet, itchy wool blanket, candlewick bedspread, lovely comfortable smell, sleep.

Great memories to share Roy. I do remember you telling me about the water bottle. I'm happy the water bottle has been replaced by the electric blanket.

My mom said if your bed was made, your room looked clean. It actually works for me, not that "making my bed" involves much more than quickly straightening the sheets and blankets.

We use to heat bricks up on the wood stove, wrap them in a wash towel then put them iunder the covers at the foot of the bed. My brother and I shared an unheated bed room

A duvet is a covering for a down comforter, as far as I know, and I loved having one many years ago. The duvet was a green and blue plaid.
Nowadays, it's a warm thick blanket. My Pepto Bismal pink bedspread gets too dirty from the cat shedding on it. Come summer, it will be just a sheet. :D

All the duvet coverings I've seen here are short on the sides and bottom , the same as a comforter so I didn't like them at firsrt, but Roy's duvet does cover a down comforter and it keeps us plenty warm during the night. I find myself sticking my leg out from underneath the cover at night to cool down because I get so hot, but I don't know if this is the result of the down or perimenopause. :((
