I'm going cross eyed with all the searching and not having much luck ....

Ok, I've picked and ginned my cotton, now just I wash it, bleach maybe, before carding then spinning? How to wash fresh cotton?

Lanolin only in sheep, not cotton. Have fun . Try subscribing to Mother Earth News. I enjoy it and you will find a lot of things.

M suggestion, don't wash. Wash after you have the item completed being made . Cotton material is sometimes bleached after completed. Cotton gins never wash cotton.

Great advice, I almost gathered as much in all the reading I've done. Something about the lanolin? I should need your number for when I start tackling the next stage......

Here's a website with some random info about your cotton.  I don't know how much help it will be, though.

I'm not finding anything else.  :(

I found and read this site during my search. Just can't find a thing that tells me to "dunk" my cotton in soapy water. I'm afraid of messing up the whole batch.....

That is likely not a good way to clean your cotton. It sounds like "carding" is the way to clean the raw cotton.

I've purchased two metal brushes, kind of homemade carding....

The latter one had more info but have yet to find out HOW to wash it. Wouldn't need to if I hadn't sealed in plastic bags so that bacteria is growing. Anyhow, I'm learning how to uae a drop spindle and am spinning wool. Not even threads but I can see where practice can take care of that!

VERY COOL, jhh. There isn't anything you can't do when you put your mind to it! Hat's off to you

    Seen this?...http://www.cottoninc.com/product/nonwovens/nonwoven-technical-guide/cotton-preparation/

No, I missed this and try to read it as I may, James was talking in the background. Hush doesn’t work. I’ll check it out later. I’m gonna spin the cotton and crochet a purse, silk lined, and sell it for lots of money…..

Won't be selling it to me then, I'm dirt poor!
    jhharlan

Nope. Only to someone who can appreciate that it was hand grown, harvested, woven (spun), washed (bleached), crocheted, assembled, actually designed by me. What should I charge?

Do you know any African/American dark skinned people?
Ask them for some guidance, just a suggestion!

Why not ask a white person from Africa? Not understanding the distinction......

Some of their descendents may have had "experience" with cotton?

I can't help you with the cotton, but I dated a cross-eyed woman. I had to dump her. She began looking at other men!
