    As Bob said reverse the operation, it's simple arithmetic.

    You get an A for the day. You must have been really good in math in school

    Reverse the operations.  42 ÷ 3 = 14. 14 - 8 = 6. 6× 4 = 24

    MCM, this isn't a story problem, though, and I know you could do it. With story problems, one has to weed through what they NEED to know against the extra stuff thrown in to confuse.
