Introducing Iceland: http://www.lonelyplanet.com/iceland
I found this great site with a complete list of of clothing from head to toe for women visiting Iceland during the winter. It also has a small list of items not to bother taking like an umbrella because the wind will more than likely destroy it.

Don't forget to pack a swim suit for the hot springs.
I know you're going to have a wonderful vacation. Please tell us all about your adventure when you come back home.

Well, everybody has said to dress warm so I’ll offer this: after visiting NYC for 10 or so days I found it best to just do the touristy stuff. The places made just for tourist. There you will be known for what you are, be treated nicely, recognized as a curious stranger and questions will be eagerly answered. How long are you going for? If for more than 10 day or so or after you’ve exhausted the visitor trades, THEN go exploring on your own but beware of any “traps”……..
