This was not the homecoming that Claude Noel had envisioned.
The man who coached the Milwaukee Admirals for four seasons and led them to their only Calder Cup title was back at the Bradley Center on Wednesday but his new team, the Manitoba Moose, was unable to win one for the gipper.
By scoring three times on their first 12 shots of the contest, the Admirals were able to build a cushion and then hang on for a 6-3 triumph before a crowd of 2,665.
After watching rookie Eddie Lack start the past three games, Tyler Weiman was back between the pipes for the Moose and made 14 saves as he suffered the loss.
Jonas Andersson, Jordan Schroeder and Evan Oberg scored for the Moose, while Jamie Lundmark, Gabriel Bourque, Chris Mueller (with a pair, including an empty-netter), Linus Klassen (with his team-high 11th of the season) and Mike Bartlett replied for the Admirals.
It was the first outright loss in five games for the Moose, who wrap up a four-game road trip with a 1-1-0-2 record and slipped to 11-7-0-3 overall on the American Hockey League season.
The Moose will travel home Thursday and are back in action Friday night against the Oklahoma City Barons, the primary affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers.
The Barons roster includes snipers Alexandre Giroux and Linus Omark, former Moose centre Brad Moran, Brandon product Alex Plante and goalie Martin Gerber.
Definitely, for sure, guaranteed!
