    I'm NOT happy....

My tax preparer got an extension back in April, and now my return is due in 2 days.  TWO DAYS.  There were a couple of questions he had for me MONTHS AGO and I addressed them; he said he would follow up and take care of the problem.
TODAY, at 5 P.M. he called to ask me the SAME QUESTIONS from six months ago.  BOTH issues will be ridiculously costly for me if they are not correctly resolved.  I GAVE HIM ALL THE INFORMATION in April.

I'm furious with this guy, who has been a bowling associate and my tax preparer for years.  I told him he had all the information six months ago and had assured me he would take care of everything.  I doubt he will....

Anybody know what I can do to protect myself from what is sure to be a horrible backlash???

Efile is the common way nowadays so he should not give you that, as an excuse. Since you already reminded him three weeks ago, I would go to his boss NOW! Don't wait until the return is late.  Call and ask him one more time if it is filed. If he says anything other than yes, I would immediately call his boss. Something seems fishy to me.

I got a call to come and sign the return and bring checks to pay the feds and state. I am very tempted to talk to the owner of the business about the way my return was mishandled and insist that the preparer pay the taxes for NOT doing his job. I most certainly won't be paying THEIR bill, and will have to file an amended return and hope to get a refund of the way-too-much I'll be paying because SOMEBODY CAN'T DO HIS JOB.

I don't understand U.S. tax laws but in this country if you have a problem like this you can phone the tax office & explain your circumstances. They are usually very understanding & helpful. Have you thought of trying this & maybe get yourself another extension to sort this clown out.

Hi Tommy. I got an extension back in April, as the tax preparer was inundated with work and the info needed to be gathered. I spoke too harshly and too soon, as I met with him today and he explained that there were TWO items with huge gains, and that brought my taxable income (mind you, I saw nor enjoyed ANY of that money) to a high amount, disqualifying me from health care reduction for the year past and a demand for repayment along with a tax burden. My health insurance will more than triple next year. I am in the process of filing a complaint with the Securities and Exchange Commission, and will be getting the cost of the securities the thief sold so that an amended return can be filed with the proper numbers. I am hoping the costs were so high that the gains will be minimal. In the meantime, I have hollered, in a dignified, rational, and intelligent way, at his assistant, who assures me he will be calling me. I sincerely doubt it....it would be in his best interest to retire to the Bahamas with the commissions he's earned by screwing people like me (who now has even more people to distrust). I called my new broker and spoke at length with her; SHE is awesome.

    LOL.Good one.

Can you efile it Bobby? It's the fastest way to file and if it is the tax preparer's fault I would demand that he pay the fee for the inconvenience!!

I made phone calls at 5 A.M. because I couldn't sleep. It took about half an hour, and the documents HE SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN MONTHS AGO will be here in about ten days, so an amended will need to be filed. See my comment to Ducky for more. REALLY UPSET. No idea how much I owe; was just told to "bring checks". &$#%&%&

Bring checks? How unprofessional all the way around. New tax preparer next year?

Don’t blame him, maybe he just forgot  his basics……...

I went to pick up the return and write big checks. Found out it was NOT the accountant; it was the broker who sold stuff unbeknownst to me (my own fault for trusting this sob) and reported it all as capital gains. The accountant pointed it out to me and did his best to adjust the cap gains to something manageable. I am in contact with the SEC to lodge a complaint against the broker, and have just given his secretary a piece of MY mind, since I have plenty and she is lacking. He is supposed to call me, but unless he is offering me about $12000 and an amended tax return, he can go....well, he should use a sharp and very long sword with what he should do to himself.
