I'm opposed to all cruelty to animals and the killing and trapping of animals. - - - that includes crabs.

MCM,i also am opposed to cruelty to animals,,All animals kill animals for food,the food chain is alive and well,,and if you must kill an animal for food,it must be done humanely,>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<..

Logic tells me that the supply of the crabs in one area surpasses that of the other, and efforts in conservation must be enforced.

RE: the comment in your question space: Very few are advocates of cruelty to animals. That is hardly the purpose for releasing the crabs and I am, once again, sitting here shaking my head at the complete lack of understanding.... oh my.

I will help you out a little Bob..the crab in my post is called a Jenny because it is female,,the crab in my comment to Romos is a male,,

In this photo you have male and female.....Now for my original question.???????

Conservation plays a part,,the jenny is a breeding crab,hence the conservation,,the jenny in Queensland must always be thrown back to breed,,however some of them have made it to NSW where the water is colder.and they do not breed in cold water..so because they do not breed in NSW,they might as well eat them,,but in Queensland we cop a fine if we take a Jenny home to the pot ...Bob, you did ask the members to ask a thinking question a week,,this was my question..>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<..

If conservation isn't the whole point, I'm at a loss. In a nonbreeding environment, it makes no sense to release the crabs.
I appreciate your question. Keep them coming.

I like crab wherever they come from, very tasty . There must be more of them in NSW , as Roy says, that must be the reason . maybe the people of NSW don't eat so many. Or is it just another silly law someone has thought up.
